What I did on my last day of vacation

Yes, it is true.  Tomorrow I go back to work.  Christmas break has come and gone.  And no, I did not accomplish everything I wanted to–but truly when does everything ever get done?
So today was my last day and the kids were in school.  I really needed to clean house and iron an ever growing pile of clothes.  But I did neither of these things—-I went to pottery.  I have missed ALOT of my pottery classes in the past two months.  Illness, trips, holidays, etc etc have interfered.  So today I really wanted to go.  But I had all these chores to do!  What a dilemma!  Well, I told my inner voice to shut up, left all the beds unmade, floors unswept and breakfast dishes in the sink and left the building!  WooHoo for me.
And today, for the first time in almost a year, I got back on the potter’s wheel.  And at the end of three hours, I had practiced alot and I had one bowl to show for my efforts.  I intend to show you said bowl when it is fired and glazed.  The important thing is I enjoyed my time.
Then I came home, with appx an hour and half before school  pick time—and thought—“I should make the beds.”  But do you know what I did instead?  I ate lunch and read a few chapters of a book!  Can you believe it?  I am practically decadence personified.
After I picked up the kids, I told them the first thing we were going to do when we got home was a “30 minute chore bust”.  we were only going to spend 30 minutes on chores but we needed to move fast and get everything done.  On the list were:  making all three beds, loading dishwasher, wiping down countertops, sweeping hard floors, vacuuming carpeted floors, putting away a basket of laundry, feeding all pets, emptying all trash cans and taking trash to outside can, and finally, emptying backpacks and lunchboxes.  The kids were done with their chores in 25 minutes, mine took the full 30.  But it all got done! Sure, my floors need to be mopped and my bathrooms need a scrubbin’ but I don’t wanna.  Huh! Whadda think of that?  Instead, I am updating my blog and reading more of my book while dinner cooks away in the oven.
I am really working on this new thought pattern this year.  I have let my “to do” list and my self-inflicted responsibility and guilt rule for too long.  There will always be toilets to scrub, but fun stuff is fleeting. šŸ™‚
Blessings!
