Today E and I went on his third grade field trip. We went to “Safety City.” Maybe other towns/cities have places like this. I don’t know, but I’ve never seen another one. It is basically a little town, run by our local fire department and police department, to teach kid safety skills. I’ve never been before, because C was already too cool at 8 years old to let mom go on the field trip with him.
Our group started out in the fire house.
The kids learned about dangers in the kitchen, having an escape plan, testing smoke alarms, and the danger of playing with fire.
Then they practiced escaping from a bedroom window.
Next up, the police department where we learned about road safety: as a pedestrian, a cyclist, and a driver
E started out in the pedestrian group.
Then he got to practice driving…
And finally, he practiced his bike skills….
What a cool place for kids to learn necessary safety skills!
